2025-2026 FAFSA
Aid Applications for current students
Don't forget to apply for financial aid for the 2025-26 academic year!
You have to remember to reapply for financial aid each academic year. For most students, that means filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA. OSU must receive a FAFSA from you each academic year to be able to confirm your eligibility for different grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study funding. Currently, the 2025-26 FAFSA is set to be available on or before December 1, 2024. Make sure you are keeping up with important deadlines and dates!
The FAFSA Application
You will need to file your 2025-26 FAFSA at studentaid.gov. You will need to have an FSA ID, your 2023 tax and income information, current bank information, and your Social Security Number or Alien Registration Number. The form will ask you things such as your family's income and how many people are in your family. These questions help determine how much aid you are eligible for.
It should only take about 30 minutes to fill out your FAFSA and there are plenty of resources to help you. Start with this FAFSA guide and review the Pro Tips for the FAFSA® Form to help get started.
The ORSAA Application
The Oregon Student Aid Application is an alternative to the FAFSA for some Oregon residents who are not eligible to submit a FAFSA. The 2025-26 ORSAA is set to open within a few days of the FAFSA form. You can check for updates from Oregon Student Aid and take this quiz to decide which financial aid application is right for you!
The ORSAA follows the same steps and questions as the FAFSA, so please continue to use the resources on this page if you need help. However, the ORSAA cannot pull tax information directly from the IRS so you will need to manually input your 2023 tax information.
Other Financial Aid Applications
OSU ScholarDollars
Oregon State University uses our ScholarDollars system to award additional scholarships to students. ScholarDollars is the best place to find and apply for scholarships through OSU. Most applications open on November 1 and February 15 is the most common deadline. Don't miss your chance to apply for more funding!
OSAC Scholarship Application
The Office of Student Access and Completion hosts over 600 scholarships that Oregon residents can apply for. The OSAC Scholarship Application opens on November 1 and is due by March 1. However, students are encouraged to have both their scholarship application and their FAFSA or ORSAA completed by the early bird deadline of February 18 for a chance to receive additional funding.
2025-26 FAFSA Updates
The Department of Education has delayed the launch of the 2025-2026 FAFSA to perform a beta release with a limited pool of invited applicants. The beta release began on October 1 and there will be different phases where they are working with specific populations and institutions to find and resolve as many different bugs in the form before making it available to the public. Currently, the application is on track to be released on or before December 1, 2024.
The OSU Office of Financial Aid is currently on track to be able to begin processing FAFSA information and sending aid offers to returning students in April and May.
Latest Updates
October 17, 2024
- As of October 16, over 1,100 2025-26 FAFSA forms have been successfully submitted out of over 1,600 students. No critical errors have been found or reported through the testing up this point. The second phase of the beta release began October 15 as planned. The 2025-26 FAFSA is currently still on track to be publically available by December 1, 2024.
October 10, 2024
- The beginning of the beta release has been largely successful and allowed hundreds of students to successfully complete their 2025-26 FAFSA forms. Department of Education engineers attended and assisted with the FAFSA completion events and were able to find and correct some of the errors that were occurring.
September 30, 2024
- The Department of Education is recommending that students and their contributors create their account at studentaid.gov, often called an FSA ID. While the FAFSA form will not be avaible until around December 1, a studentaid.gov account is necessary to be able to file a FAFSA. Every student and any contributors they have will need their own unique accounts. The creation of an account will take a few days as an individual's information will need to be verified with other governmental agencies, such as the Social Security Administration. The Department of Education has put together this website to help with creating your studentaid.gov account.
What happens after I submit my FAFSA?
After submitting your FAFSA, the Department of Education will process the information received and send it out to the schools you listed on your form. We typically receive applications within a week of the submission date. After we receive your application, we may need to confirm some information on your FAFSA so that you are offered the correct financial aid. This is called "verification," and it’s a common thing. If we need more information, you’ll be contacted via your OSU student email. We hit pause on processing your financial aid during this time but start up again after you’ve submitted the documents we need.
What if my financial situation has changed?
The 2025-26 FAFSA uses 2023 tax and income information. If you and your family's financial situation has changed since 2023 and the FAFSA is no longer using accurate information, please look into our Special Conditions Appeal process. Depending on your situation, we may be able to adjust the information reported on your FAFSA and you could potentially gain eligibility for additional financial aid.
