Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program Update: 2024 Summer Term Funding Not Available
-
Due to the significant success and high level of participation of the Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance program, the funding demands of the program are anticipated to exceed the budget allowance authorized by the Oregon State Legislature. Statute (ORS 348.268(6)) requires the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) to implement cost saving measures if at any time the HECC determines that funding available to the HECC is insufficient to provide a grant under the ONGSTA program to each eligible person. Because of this funding shortfall, the HECC, in collaboration with our close partner, the Oregon Military Department, have made the difficult decision to suspend funding for the 2024 summer term to assist with continued funding through the end of the 2023-25 biennium. It was determined with communication between the HECC and the Oregon Military Department, that suspending summer term 2024 funding will have the least impact on the number of Oregon National Guard members utilizing ONGSTA funding. The HECC is committed to providing a high level of support to our Oregon National Guard members and will be working with our State Legislators for continued investment in this very successful program. Please do not hesitate to contact OSAC with any questions regarding this decision at ONGSTA@hecc.oregon.gov.
