You must apply for financial aid every year by submitting a FAFSA application. Applications must be received before February 28th at the central processor to be considered for priority funding. You may apply for aid online after Jan. 1 for the following academic year. Below are a few of the issues that may affect you as a continuing OSU student and financial aid recipient. Be sure to keep on top of managing your award!

Yearly Loan Limits

If you have been awarded a Ford loan, you are eligible for additional Ford loan funding as you progress through school. Depending on your credits and class standing, you will be able to receive different loan amounts. Below are the credit requirements and loan amounts:

Class Standing

Loan Limit (Dependent)

Loan Limit (Independent)

Freshman

0 - 45

$5,500

$9,500

Sophomore

If you change class standing in either fall or winter term, you may request that your loans be increased for the current academic year. Download and complete the Loan Revision Form and return it to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for review.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

As a financial aid recipient, you have a responsibility to maintain satisfactory academic progress toward your degree. You must meet the requirements outlined in the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy to receive federal/state financial aid at Oregon State University. Please visit the Satisfactory Academic Progress page for detailed information.

Scholarship Renewal

All awards are renewable for four years, or up to 12 terms of undergraduate work towards a bachelor’s degree. Each award has its own renewal requirement. You must meet both the GPA and credit hour minimum each year to continue your scholarship. Please note that Advanced Placement (AP) and/or transfer credits will not be counted toward the GPA or credit requirements, unless you are enrolled in the dual-partnership program. You must also maintain continuous full-time enrollment at OSU for Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. If you believe you are unable to meet these requirements, you are required to contact the USP coordinator as soon as possible. You are ultimately responsible to monitor your own progress to assure scholarship renewal requirements are met.

Students will be notified, by e-mail, of their progress at the end of each term and at the end of the academic year to confirm scholarship renewal status for the following year.
